Taka Wins Red Bull X Ray 2010

Story, Photos & Video by Holtzy

Japanese rider Taka Higoshimo nailed the highest score ever in a Run at a Red Bull X Ray heat to take out the title from the man who invented the X Ray event- Robbie Maddison.
Taka has been living in the USA recently riding all the time with the Metal Mulisha crew and that experience clearly showed as he was super comfortable all over the course and finished his final run with a seat grab backflip over the 110ft dirt hit.
Maddo was again a standout throughout the event but was hampered by a wrist injury that has seen him off his bike for the last 4 months.
Other highlights included the riding of USA Rider Brody Wilson, Flip lord Cam Sinclair, Robbie Marshall taking out the speed and style event and the huge whips and complete bike skills of racers like Tye Simmonds and Dan McCoy.
Only two crashes went down all weekend but unfortunately they were two guys who were riding really well.
Matt Schubring was on fire until the wind got hold of him and he crashed head butting the bars, snapping one tooth, loosening others, fracturing his jaw and he faces about $5000 worth of dental bills. To his credit despite the pain he came out and did one run including nailing the biggest trick I saw anyone do all weekend on the jump that he crashed on. Schuie has no fear.
Clinton Moore was the other to go down. He was pulling huge tricks all over the course but come unstuck in the whip contest and broke his wrist.
Once again the Red Bull X Ray proved to be the best event in Australia. The course is huge, flows incredibly well and the riders love it. 10,000 people endured severe traffic jams to watch the event which was only spoiled by a couple of local drunk clowns who rolled their vehicle. Hopefully that wont stop the event being back next year. It’s too good to lose.
