Story and Photos By Holtzy

Queensland's Matt Schubring fought off a high quality field to win the richest FMX competition in the Southern Hemisphere- the $20,000 Freestyle Sports Open held on the picturesque shores of Lake Karapiro on the North Island of New Zealand

Up against the likes of Blake "Bilko" Williams and Cam Sinclair from Australia and Kiwi's Nick Franklin, Luke Smith, Luke Price and Levi Sherwood it was always going to be a difficult event to win.

CARVING THE DUNES

When West Oz FMX rider Shane "Towny" Townsend rang to let me know he was heading to the legendary Lancelin Dunes just north of Perth it didn’t take me long to agree to come along. Visions of those perfect snow white dunes and blue skies immediately appeared in my head and the good news was the weather for the day was predicted to be perfect.

Black Duck Valley in Queensland is arguably the best dirt bike park in Australia. Boasting several motocross tracks, 50 tracks, freestyle ramps and even one of Seth’s long distance ramps plus camping facilities all set in a beautiful area there is something there for everyone.

New Zealand Whip Fest

Story and photos by Holtzy

The second leg of the Freerider MX/HGMtv New Zealand was a mind blowing whip fest at one of NZ best motocross tracks near Lake Taupo.
With Levi Sherwood resting a sore shoulder and ankle after aggravating an old injury at the last stop of the tour it was left to top NZ racers Rhys Carter (No 733) and Nick Saunders (No 909) to whip it flat for the cameras. The session was pretty bloody epic. There's not much more to say so I will leave the photos to tell the story.

Robbie "Maddo" Maddison

Story & Photos by Holtzy
This story and interview was recorded by me in Temecula, California a couple of years ago when I spent a few weeks living with Maddo and his then fiancee Amy as they battled hard to crack the US market. At that stage Maddo was in the early stages of preparing for his first crack at the world record distance jump and was still relatively unknown to anyone but hardcore FMX riders. Since then he's gone on to break the world record longest distance jump several times (including 378ft in practice which is the unofficial world record) plus backflipping the river Thames in England and of couse his amazing step up and step down jump on the exact replica of the Arc de Triumph in France.
Maddo is the modern day Evil Knievel. He is a classic Aussie Underground Legend gone huge and a damn fine human being. Legend is too small a word to describe what this man has achieved.

Brad Landers

25 year old Brad Landers burst onto the FMX at the recent gathering of the tribe down in Esperance when he came out of nowhere to be just the second person in West Australia to land a backflip and the first to land more than one as well as the first to land any sort of backflip combo.

Story & photos by Holtzy

This is one of my all time favourite FMX stories. Back in the early days of the backflip in Australia when Jono Porter and Rob Felli were just starting to land a few, a totally unknown rider in a remote town in south west Western Australia grabbed his own piece of flip history. The only difference is that aside from his mates around town no one knew he had done it until now and there was never any fame, glory, women or paychecks for his effort.

New Zealand FMX Freeride Tour Begins

Story and Photos by Holtzy

It’s that time of year again when HGMtv travels to the home of epic natural terrain FMX freeriding- New Zealand. This time in conjunction with the Bible of FMX- Freerider MX.

This year I joined forces with Freerider MX editor Simon Makker and their video guru- Jade Foggo to once again explore the North Island for as many big natural terrain hits as possible.

After just two days on the road the boys can claim a couple of jumps over 100ft and plenty of other cool tech stuff as well as visiting a couple of prime MX tracks.

Revheads_resize1.jpg

HGMtv sent four camera teams to the Narrogin Rev Heads to capture every golden moment. The best FMX comp in Oz combined with smoking tyres, hot rods and hot chicks made for an awesome weekend.

Now the DVD is available and high energy action together with a lot of laughs are guaranteed. Definatly a worthy addition to the HGM archives.
